Release Schedule of Current Database Releases (Doc ID 742060.1)

  • NOTE: The fee for Extended Support for 11.2 has been waived for all customers through 31 May 2017. No customer action is required to take advantage of Extended Support during this time.

How To Interpret The Roadmap
Major divisions of the Roadmap are years, and minor divisions are calendar quarters.

The timeline shows all currently-supported releases and their patch sets. For each group there is a line at the top for the major release lifecycle, and smaller lines below for patch sets. The future dates for patch sets are shown based on a general plan - actual dates may vary. For the most up-to-date schedule, see the table above.
Major releases - Designated by the 2nd place in the version number (e.g. 12.1.0.x) and shown as the wider red bar in the Roadmap. Lifetime Support Policy dates apply to the major release as a whole. The Premier Support phase is shown in solid color and Extended Support is designated by the diagonal line pattern. For the most current information on the Lifetime Support Policy for Oracle Database see Lifetime Support Policy - Oracle Technology Products.
  • NOTE: The fee for Extended Support for 11.2 has been waived for all customers through 31 May 2017. No customer action is required to take advantage of Extended Support during this time.
Patch sets - Designated by the 4th place in the version number (e.g. 12.1.0.2), and shown by the narrower green/gray bars below their associated major release. The plan is for:
  • 1 patch set for an x.1 major release (e.g. 11.1). If required we may release a second patch set one or more years after the first.
  • 3 patch sets for other major releases, issued one year apart with the exception of the last, which may be issued anywhere from 12 to 24 months or more from the second patch set. For example, 11.2.0.4 was released 23 months after 11.2.0.3.
  • When a new patch set is released, new fixes for the previous patch set level are created for a period of time to allow supported overlap:
    • First patch set after a base release: one year to install the first patch set while receiving fixes for the base release
    • Second and later patch sets: two years to install while receiving fixes for the previous patch set
    • The length of the lines for each patch level indicate the period during which new patches are created for that version
    • The supported time starts with the first release of a patch set on any platform; since other platforms are released later the supported time for the release on those would be less than the the full period BUT in no case will less than 3 months overlapping support be given
    • Oracle may in some cases give a longer time to install a new patch set than the standard times shown above - if so the actual dates will be reflected in the roadmap and patching end date table in this document.

Patch Set Updates and Critical Patch Updates - Patch Set Updates and Critical Patch Updates are released quarterly during the patching period for each patch set as shown in the roadmap. and so are not listed separately on the Roadmap.
